So, it's November 30, NaNoWriMo is pretty much over, and I'm here with my regular blog update.
Follow the read more cut to find out what I've been up to in the month of November....
I Literary Can't Even
The podcast hosted by me, Kyra Lennon and Paula Grabow has been on a bit of hiatus for November. Paula was on vacation for some of it, and then away for Thanksgiving too. And as me and Kyra were swamped by NaNoWriMo, we only recorded one episode this month. You can find it on the website here: http://iliterarycanteven.weebly.com/episodes.html
However, we haven't been totally slacking on the podcast front, as Kyra has been busy setting up the first ever I Literary Can't Even... Book Awards. Round one is closed now, but voting on round two is due to start soon. You can check out the awards here: www.facebook.com/events/1986202411639524/?active_tab=discussion
NaNoWriMo was a huge success. I 'won' for the forth time, and writing every day for a month was exactly what I needed to get me out of my writing funk.
I've made great progress on my co-written project with Kyra Lennon. It's currently on 56,508 words and I'd say we're about a two-thirds of the way into the story. I can't wait to work on the climax.
I also completed Every Moment With You, and loved that I bought it full circle by using NaNoWriMo 17 to complete the project I started for NaNoWriMo 16.
I'm still serialising it on Wattpad and Fiction Press, with the aim of publishing it as a paperback when the whole thing is posted online. There's no new chapter this week, as I've been trapped under a PMS cloud, and haven't felt like editing (or doing much beside work or sleeping) but you can find chapters one to nineteen here: http://www.claredugmore.com/every-moment-with-you.html
I also wrote 10k for my Snowy Wings Publishing Fairy Tale Anthology Nutcracker Retelling Short Story. The word limit is actually meant to be 10k, but I'm not quite finished yet (I reckon I have 5k max left to write - yes, I suck with word limits!). If I go over, I'm either going to see if I can get an extension on the WC limit, or I guess I'll have to edit it down! But the main point is, I've almost completed it, and I'm pretty happy with how it went.
As I said, doing NaNoWriMo has awoken my writing mojo, and I have a project planned for next year. I don't want to talk about it yet, in case anything happens, but I'm so excited to get to work on it....
It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas
We haven't got the tree up yet, because it's still friggin' November! :P - but I'm starting to feel the Christmas spirit already. I think we'll likely get the tree up in a couple of weeks, and then we'll be swept up in school carol concerts, family visits, and of course Youngest's Eighth birthday on the 22nd.
We've done most of the Christmas shopping for the kids, so that's them all sorted. Hubby got a bunch of stuff too, but has a few more things (Funko Pops!) he wants to grab. I haven't gotten much for myself yet, but I'm hoping to change that soon with a trip to the cosmetics shop! ;) Then it will just stuff for close family, and that's pretty easy, as we usually just give gift cards or money! lol
We got advent calendars today, and also and Elf on the Shelf for Youngest. He hasn't let Elfy out of his sight yet, and I can't wait to start causing mischief with the elf.
Dieting and Weightless
Hubby and I have slowed down on the dieting recently. We're still having keto/ low carb meals, but we're also having the occasional treat, and have had take-out a couple of times (like when we were out Christmas shopping last weekend).
I'm aiming to remain below 170 lbs for the rest of the year; I'm currently on 167 lbs right now. Then after Christmas, I'll reassess things and get strict again. We're also planning on jogging/ running in the New Year, so hopefully that will help with the weight-loss too.
I forgot to mention in October's entry that me and the boys celebrated Samhain on October 31. We all did a ritual to rid ourselves of bad habits, by writing the bad habit down on paper, then burning it in a candle, while thinking about how were were going to try better not to do these things in the future.
I'm not sure how well it went, we're all still doing the bad habits we said we wouldn't. But that's more to do with us, and our willpower, than it is to do with the universe's energy.
The important thing I'm taking away from it is that I'm trying to connect with my spirituality more, and even involving the boys in it.
Even though I managed to write about 2k each day, in other aspects I'm still in a bit of a funk. I don't know if it's PMS or depression or what, but I've found myself sleeping a lot more in the daytime recently, and also this week I've had a headache almost every day. It could be PMS, being on the injection, or that I'm due for an eye test. But whatever the case, I'm not feeling quite right physically or mentally right now. I hope I can shift this weird head space, and be more productive, but we'll see ....
Books, TV & Comics
Reading wise, I'm on a witch kick right now, having just finished Deborah Harkness' All Souls Trilogy, and now I've started re-reading Anne Rice's The Witching Hour, because it's my favourite book ever. I've also downloaded some samples of witch related novels that had interesting blurbs, and Matthew Cox was kind enough to send me an ARC for his an J.R. Rain's new novel, The Devil's Eye. I can't wait to start it.
I also want to give a quick shout-out to Jordan Elizabeth and her YA, coming of age paranormal horror ESCAPE FROM WITCHWOOD HOLLOW. Jordan is a great CQ author, and offered to do a newsletter swap with me this month, so go check out her book.
TV wise, comic book superheroes are ruling here. I loved the Arrow/ Flash/ Supergirl/ Legends of Tomorrow crossover, Crisis on Earth X, and The Gifted is quite possibly the best TV show ever. I'm so glad we're getting a decent mutant themed show.
Speaking of mutants, I'm also loving XMen Blue, the Jean Grey Solo comic, XMen Gold and Astonishing XMen. Plus there was the announcement that adult Jean Grey is being resurrected, and getting her own team, XMen Red. I'm excited, because it will be cool to have OG Jean back, but I hope it doesn't lead to the young/ O5 XMen being sent back to their own time period, because I really love 'baby' Jean. I actually feel there's room for multiple versions of characters (hello, there's like forty-thousand Wolverines) as long as they do something different with them, like they have done with Beast (him learning magic) and Angel (him having cosmic wings).
And that's about it for this month ...
Hope you all had a great November, and let me know in the comments any awesome things that happened to you recently.
Until next time.
